PSEVE Scholarship
The scholarship awarded by PSEVE is an effort to recognize and support research work produced in Greek higher education.
The "PSEVE Scholarship", worth two thousand euros (2,000.00 €), is awarded to a doctoral candidate studying at a Greek higher education institution whose doctoral thesis supervisor is a regular member of PSEVE and is financially up to date.
The applicant must be in the second or third year of their first doctoral studies.
The scholarship is announced during the first year of the term of the respective Board of Directors and is awarded in two installments of 1,000.00€ each.
The scholarship announcement is posted on the PSEVE website every three years, in March or April.
The application of the interested doctoral candidate must be accompanied by a 2,500-3,000-word essay, which will include the following:
(a) a clear description of the subject of the doctoral thesis, i.e., a theoretical introduction, as well as the objectives and hypotheses of the research,
(b) the research method and data analysis,
(c) justification of the originality, innovation, and contribution of the research, and
(d) bibliography.
The application must be written in Greek. It must also be accompanied by two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the doctoral thesis supervisor.
Evaluation criteria
Applications are sent for evaluation to at least two external evaluators. The evaluation process is supervised by a three-member committee appointed by the current Board of Directors of the Psychological Society of Northern Greece and consists of its members. The criteria for awarding the scholarship are the originality and innovation of the topic, the clarity and quality of the theoretical part of the review, the clarity and quality of the research method, the use of contemporary bibliography, etc. The three-member committee submits a reasoned report to the Board of Directors with an evaluation ranking of the applications, and the Board of Directors makes the final decision by majority vote. The entire review and evaluation process is completed within 90 days of the application deadline.
The evaluation of the applications by the three judges is graded on 1 to 7 scaled based on the 10 criteria listed below. The average score for each application is then calculated and a table is drawn up with the ranking of the candidates. The 10 evaluation criteria are as follows:
- Title of the thesis
- Introduction (clarity and quality of the theoretical part of the review)
- Hypotheses
- Method
- Data analysis
- Bibliography
- Originality
- Innovation
- Contribution to science
- Clarity and quality of the research design
Applications from doctoral candidates whose supervisors are members of the three-member committee are excluded from the scholarship award. No exclusion of the application is required if the committee member resigns from the committee.
Procedure after the award of stipendium
Once the application has been approved, the first installment of €1,000 is paid to the scholarship recipient. The second installment is paid one year after the first, and only after the submission of a detailed progress report from their thesis supervisor to the Board of Directors.
In addition to the financial support provided, if the scholarship recipient so wishes, they may submit a paper related to their doctoral thesis for publication in the Hellenic Journal of Psychology, the journal of the Psychological Society of Northern Greece.
During the evaluation procedure, the applications that are ranked in the next three positions after the one which receives the stipendium, they receive a honorary note of "distinction" and the opportunity to publish their work in the Hellenic Journal of Psychology if they wish to do so.
